Chocolate Milk - an excellent post workout drink!

I don't usually comment on nutrition stuff as its not an area of expertise but this is just lovely, lovely news.

As you know, and I've told you enough times if you're a client, getting protein and carbs after a hard training session is vital. Turns out that chocolate milk can do the job very effectively. Nice :)

Here's the research

Bodysaw - advanced ab training #1

A fantastic exercise popularised by the team at TRX - this deceptively simple drill is going to get you strong abs in no time. If you don't own a TRX, use any suspension training system, Powerwheel or Slideboard. If you don’t have any of the equipment you can even use paper plates...just don’t use them for eating afterwards...

Double Kettlebell Jerks

Kettlebell Jerks are just a great explosive exercise to add into a training mix.

I find them phenomenal for developing upper body strength and power - they're also great for slapping on shoulder and back muscle. And, if you're into that sort of thing, a really nice pump :)

Jerks are also fantastic for full contact sports.

Finally they even have an advantage over barbells! You need to control and manage two independent weights rather than the simpler barbell.

Bars do have the advantage of being loadable though :)

Double Kettlebell Training - the joys, the joys!

I like heavy kettlebell training. Actually I love heavy kettlebell training.

Unlike most of my training I have to specifically plan and programme it into my schedule as its quite draining but totally fantastic for strength, power and packing on a bit of muscle.

The benefits of doubling up are immense

Z-Health Review - What Is Z-Health?

I'm a Z-Health sceptic. I can't help it. Sorry. (UPDATE: I was a...)

I read about near magical transformations and effects it has with rehabbing injuries, improving performance and ignored it all for the last couple of years but the chatter and buzz has gotten too strong.

I succumbed, I broke down, I ordered the Z-Health Mega Package and...

this is the story of what I found.

Z-Health, the foundations of fitness?
We spend a lot of time training the muscular and cardiovascular systems but most of us neglect to train our nervous system.

TRX or Jungle Gym? The TRX vs Jungle Gym Smackdown

I've written about and reviewed two of the most popular suspension training systems in town - the TRX Fitness Anywhere system and LifeLine's Jungle Gym. Now I pit them head to head in a no holds barred contest to find out which one gets permanent pride of place on my pull up bar and which one gets stuck under the kitchen sink.

TRX Suspension Trainer Review

Even more suspension training, courtesy of Fitness Anywhere's TRX system. Designed by ex navy SEALS, which ticks a few boxes on the macho bloke side of things, the TRX claims that it will make your body your machine. Really? We'll find out in this post and the follow up where we pit the TRX against the LifeLine Jungle Gym in a supension training system smackdown!

PowerClub Basics - Choosing the right size clubs for you

I've been using the PowerClubs for a while now and regularly get asked how best to choose the right size to train with.

Guys especially, refuse to believe that a "light" club will ever provide enough resistance to gain any appreciable results with, that is until they try the PowerClubs out!

The reasons why PowerClubs are so effective stem from the extreme leverage disadvantage a weighted club presents. Couple this with explosive lifting and swinging and you have a recipe for a monster workout with not much resistance.

So here is a quick guide on sizing your PowerClubs.

The Kettlebell Fat Loss Manual Videos

This post, which is only available to newsletter subscribers, houses the video training routines outlined in the Kettlebell Fat Loss Manual.

This covers the basic phase of each routine but not the individual techniques. For that there are other resources on this website or in book or DVD's.

PowerClub Basics - Front Press

This is a great exercise for strengthening the upper body and core for anyone who spends time punching people (premiership footballers for example)

You need to maintain a strong contraction of the core whilst pressing and a solid, stable stance.

Keep the shoulders down and engage the pecs and lats whilst pressing forwards for added oomph.
